Production

PurforMSM® is purified through a proprietary four-stage distillation process that removes impurities and creates low moisture content. MSM purified through distillation uses heat to separate impurities and by-products of manufacturing based on their unique boiling points. In contrast, other generic MSM production strategies are based on crystallisation as a purification step. Such crystals inherently have higher water content and occlusions that can trap contaminants. Impurities removed by the distillation process include benzene, arsenic, lead, mercury, cadmium, heptane and phenol.

As a result PurforMSM® is a 99.9% pure product and has exceptionally low toxicity, so that it can be taken daily over a long period of time to help maintain good health. Additionally, the product is reliably consistent in terms of both form and quality.

Sulphur is the seventh most abundant element in animals and is considered to be an essential macronutrient for both growth and maintenance of all organisms. Sulphur plays a critical role in the formation of many biochemically important molecules essential to normal healthy function. Sulphur is an integral constituent of two key amino acids (methionine and cysteine) and disulphide bonding between cysteine residues plays a critical role in the structure and function of all enzymatic and structural proteins. Disulphide bonding is essential for the effective production of keratin and collagen necessary for healthy skin, hair and hooves.

Sulphur is also involved in intracellular redox biochemistry as a component of glutathione and thioredoxins. MSM in Nature

MSM is part of the earth’s sulphur cycle and is derived from highly volatile DMS (dimethyl sulphide) produced in particularly large quantities by marine algae and phytoplankton. DMS in the atmosphere is transformed into DMSO and MSM in the presence of sunlight and ozone. These compounds return to the surface of the earth in rainwater and are subsequently absorbed by vegetation and ultimately transferred to animals.

MSM therefore represents a natural source of sulphur.
